Preparing for Basel Art Fair Switzerland June 2015

After a very busy month finishing a body of work, finally I am packed ready to drive to Basel at the weekend. It is always exciting to see your work complete and ready to be exhibited. Of course finished does just mean ‘painting done’ anymore, there is now all the social media work to do as well as labels, pricing, customs forms, insurance, promotional materials, business cards, accommodation and getting there!

I am taking part in the Scope Basel Art Fair (June 16-21st) with two well known international artists, Paul Critchley and Michael Downs from anOTHERartgallery.com anOTHERartgallery promotes artists whose work is not confined to the normal flat square or rectangle format but are constructed so the boundaries of their work are not controlled by some pre-determined shape. Use of collage and non-convential art materials enhance the pieces created.

Breaking out of the square/rectangle

I do love these wooden panels  from Jacksons, they are 10 x 20     inches and 1 inch deep. Working in cut out shapes it seems a logical step to start making the actual pieces a shape in themselves. The three here were composed separate, as a series, then tried together for fun…but its taken me off in a new direction.

This one is causing me more problems. It was asking for the fixings to be a part of the collage so hinges and brackets are on the front..I am now searching for those gloss painted (often scraped and rusting)  fixings we are all familiar with. I like the tension and pull to the edges, not sure about the centre yet.

The next one is work in progress, it is two panels with extra pieces to break away from the rectangle, joined together. I am still playing with this

Farindola International Arts Festival, Italy

Exciting news! I hav been selected, along with 10 Internatinal artists to take part in the 1st Farindola International Arts Festival in Italy in July. With artists from America, Germany, Holland, Ireland and England and work ranging from drawing and painting to stone carving to large inflatables it is going to be interesting!

We will be spending two weeks in the small village of Farindola, one hour from Pescara, as guests of artist Paul Critchley and the Mayor. The aim is to make Farindola and Arts village, there are two festivals during our stay, where we hope to show our work.Have a look at the artist’s website and apply for 2016!
